Sustainability & Responsibility
Marlo & Cole was founded with a focus on ethical and sustainable production and delivery of goods, ensuring that your little ones get the best product possible, and we do no harm along the way.
Becoming even more environmentally and socially conscious will be an unending journey for us so, if you have any feedback or ideas, please contact us. We would be grateful to hear from you.
But, what are we doing right now? Currently, we have four key points which we must hit with every single item we produce, and every delivery we make.
1. OEKO-TEX®️ CERTIFIED COTTON
All of our products are created based on the stringent standards set out by the OEKO-TEX®️ certification body. You can find out more about these standards below, but they cover traceability of textiles, environmentally friendly production processes, safe and socially sustainable working conditions, and rigorous testing for any harmful substances.
2. PHTHALATE-FREE, CHILD FRIENDLY INKS
We print our designs using phthalate-free inks. These are child-friendly, meaning no harmful chemicals are used in the process. Using these inks also means that the colours stay vibrant and bright for multiple inevitable washes.
3. SMALL PRODUCTION RUNS
Fast fashion relies on huge production runs, and inevitably results in many items going unsold and ending up in landfill sites. We don’t want to add to this problem, so that’s why we only create a small batch of each product, and we only print once - when it’s gone, it’s gone.
4. FULLY RECYCLABLE PACKAGING
All of our packaging - from the cardboard boxes, to the stickers and tape - is 100% recyclable. There is no plastic included, and everything we include in the box is reviewed to ensure it’s as eco-friendly as possible, and also serves a purpose. If it’s unnecessary, then we won’t include it.
WHAT IS OEKO-TEX®️ CERTIFIED COTTON?
All of our products are made with OEKO-TEX®️ certified cotton, but what does that mean? In short, it means that all of our textiles are traceable, manufactured in environmental friendly facilities under safe and socially responsible working conditions. Plus, it also means that all the cotton we use has been tested for harmful substances.
To ensure that the cotton has been manufactured using environmentally friendly processes and under socially responsible working conditions, every product facility is certified in accordance with STeP by OEKO-TEX®️. This certification covers:
ENVIRONMENTAL AND CHEMICAL MANAGEMENT
SteP provides targeted support to companies to help them implement environmentally friendly production processes in the long term, from the use of chemicals and responsible handling of wastewater to the reduction of carbon emissions.
STeP recommends specific actions to improve working conditions and strengthens health and safety protection for workers at the production sites.
STeP supports socially responsible and fair working conditions at production sites. This includes both checking working times, wage payments and social insurance as well as compliance with hygiene and medical requirements. The recognition of existing social standards in the production facility is also part of STeP.
STeP contributes towards the continuous improvement of production processes and the efficient use of resources.
We will continue to review these standards and actions as we grow, but please do feel free to contact us with any suggestions you might have.
